銀色なつみ / Giniro Natsumi solo exhibition「GRAY ROOM」
目の前の対象物が生命あるものかどうか判断する要素の一つとして「活動」があります。
動きを失った剥製を、私たちはどのようにして動物だと認知できるのでしょうか。
私は兼ねてより人の動物を認知するメカニズムに興味があり、近年では剥製を撮影しています。被写体の輪郭をぼかしたり、はたまた輪郭のみを抽出したGRAY ROOMシリーズを展開しています。
今作では初めて剥製の制作過程に立ち合いました。
剥製制作とは本来ならば自然界では起こり得ない行為ですが、心音が止まった時だけが動物たちの最期ではないように思います。これが人間の身勝手な思考になりませんように、とも思うのです。
剥製はまるで生死を彷徨う身体のようで、きっと見る者を様々な感情へ誘うでしょう。

How can we recognize a stuffed animal that has lost its movement as an animal?
I have long been interested in the mechanism by which humans recognize animals, and in recent years I have been photographing stuffed animals. I have developed the GRAY ROOM series, which blurs the contours of the subject or extracts only the contours.
In this work, I witnessed the taxidermy process for the first time.
Taxidermy is an act that does not naturally occur in the wild, but I believe that the moment a heart stops beating is not the only end for animals. I hope this does not become a selfish human thought.
Taxidermy resembles a body wandering between life and death, and it will surely evoke various emotions in those who see it.

＜銀色なつみ / Giniro Natsumi Profile＞
写真家 石川県生まれ 東京育ち
対象がはっきり見えていなくても存在を経験によって知覚できる脳の補完作用(見立て/パレイドリア)をテーマに、身近な素材をすりガラス越しに撮影したり、写真を縮小拡大などして脳が視覚情報を処理する過程で起こるエラーを再現する。2020年から共通認識のモチーフとして「犬」を起用し、近年では剥製を撮影し生命を認知できる境界を捉え直している。
Photographer Born in Ishikawa Prefecture, raised in Tokyo
Focusing on the brain’s compensatory function (interpretation/pareidolia) that allows us to perceive the existence of objects even when they are not clearly visible, he reproduces errors that occur in the brain’s processing of visual information by photographing familiar materials through frosted glass and enlarging or reducing the size of photographs. Since 2020, he has used “dogs” as a common motif, and in recent years, he has been photographing taxidermy to reexamine the boundaries of perceiving life.
